RESEARCH
I am interested in the principles and applications of conservation biology. This wide-ranging field reflects my diverse interests regarding all aspects of conserving biodiversity (e.g., ecology, evolution, management, and policy). Within this framework, my research tends to be question-based. I am curious by nature and my interests are broad, so many questions pique my interest regardless of taxon, ecosystem, or geography. I am also attracted to questions that have real-world applications. Rather than doing science purely for the sake of increasing knowledge of the natural world, which certainly has its place, I prefer to conduct research that directly informs conservation, management, and policy. Finally, I seek to integrate contemporary quantitative approaches into my research. New analytical methods and software are constantly being developed and I strive to stay abreast of these advances so that the best tools can be brought to bear on a problem.
This general characterization of my research interests can be made more concrete with some examples of past and current research projects with which I have been involved.
